Akira (aka Bennie)

I wanted to thank you so much for finding me a mommy and daddy of my own. I obviously had a lot to learn about being a dog who gets to live with humans when I first went to live in my forever home. At first, I have to admist I was nervous and excited and kept jumping up on everyone and everything. But my mom and dad signed me up for obedience class for 6 weeks. Boy, that first day was hard. I remember being so excited seeing the other dogs. I had never gotten to see other dogs up close without a kennel fence in the way. I was even so excited I wouldn't take treats from my mommy and I kept jumping up on her. I think I heard her say to daddy that I was going to be a "work in progress", but that I had the potential to be a great dog someday.
Well, I showed mommy!!! Pretty soon, after a couple of weeks of obedience class, and not to mention switching to baked chicken treats for class from the standard dog treats, I was a new dog. I started to understand that when we are working in class, I must pay attention to mommy. I became the most intense "watch" dog there was in class. I stopped having staring contests with the other dogs and stopped barking at everyone in excitement. I even learned all my commands like sit, stay, lay down, heel, watch, right, left, turn, over, tunnel. Mommy asked my teacher if I could some day be an agility dog, because she noticed how fast and smart I was. Teacher Patti said I would make a great agility dog.
So, mommy signed me up for agility classes and we finished a whole 6 weeks. I was almost on my best behavior the whole time. Mommy says that we can keep going until I am able to compete in agility trails. I like to see her happy! I am still learning how to be a good social dog without barking at everyone or jumping up on mommy in my excitement. I am even learning to invite other dogs and greet them, without puffing up and growling/barking. I have learned how to invite someone to play with my "play bow". Hee, hee. I love to jump around and make them chase me.
One thinkg that I wonder about is why mommy makes me run all the time. She said something about needing training for running events and that I had to go, too. Somedays, I love to go, but somedays, I feel like a force march. She always stops when I am really tired and gives me lots fo water to drink. Most of the time I am pulling her to run faster because I know she can. She just doesn't know it. She told me that I am her best running partner ever!
My most favorite thing was when I got to go camping for the first time. We rode in daddy's truck and lived in a trailer for 3 whole days. We hiked every day and at night, I got to sleep with mommy and daddy inside. In facit, I get to sleep inside every night now. No more cold or hot days. I have a new doggie door that leads out to my huge fenced yard. Air conditioning in the summer is the natural habitat for doggies everywhere!
I am happy with my new mommy and daddy. They told me I will be theirs forever!
